I’m a free-lance dance writer and translator in New York, a weekly contributor to the “Goings On About Town” section of the New Yorker magazine, and a regular reviewer for DanceTabs and DanceView. I write features for Playbill, and longer, “think” pieces for The Nation. In addition, my dance writing has appeared in Dance Magazine, Flaunt Magazine, The Forward, Pointe, and Ballet Review.
My translations, which include Irène Némirovsky’s “The Mirador,” Dino Buzzati’s “Poem Strip,” and Pasolini’s “Stories from the City of God” have been published by FSG, Other Press, and New York Review Books. I was lucky enough to receive the 2012 French-American Foundation and Florence Gould Foundation Translation Prize for my translation of Elisabeth Gille’s “The Mirador.”
The distinguished dance writer Mindy Aloff wrote this very generous profile of me in the 2012 Winter edition of Dance Critics Association News:
